Troops and intelligence experts will be set into the country by Southern African Development Community (SADC), to stabilize the country and see that long-overdue reforms are implemented.

Leaders from six SADC countries together with the Prime Minister Dr. Motsoahae Thabane made this decision at an extra-ordinary SADC Double Troika Summit held in Pretoria South Africa last Friday.

Heads of State and Government has approved the deployment of a Contingent Force comprising military, security, intelligence and civilian experts to support Lesotho and directed the Chiefs of Defence and Security to assess the requirements, and to prepare the modalities for the deployment.

The summit noted the volatile security situation and its implications for the political stability of Lesotho and also noted an urgent need to assist the country in restoring law and order, and a peaceful, the implementation of SADC decisions, Security Sector and Constitutional Reforms, as well as the recommendations of the Phumaphi Commission of Inquiry.

Meanwhile South African defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula did not mention the date which the deployment is aimed for, but in a draft document discussed in this meeting it was recommended that the deployment be on November 1 2017.
