The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has officially opened the Manthabiseng National Convention Centre as the Local Government results publishing centre.
Speaking during the official launch, IEC Commissioner Dr. Makase Nyaphisi said the Centre will be used to announce and publish the 2017 Local Government Election results, which will be held tomorrow.
Nyaphisi said like the national assembly elections, result counting will be done at the polling centres, then transmitted to the respective councils; then to district’s head offices whereby they will be verified and lastly transmitted to the results Centre for verification and publication by the commission. But he however said the announcement and publication will be slightly different from those of the National Assembly elections results.
There will be over 6,000 candidates who will be contesting the Local Government elections in 77 councils, comprising 11 urban, 65 Community Councils and one Municipality (MCC) countrywide.
