The Chairperson of Menkhoaneng Community Council Mrs. Mathapelo Letho says some residents of Pela Ts’oeu are still practicing the novel culture of burying their loved ones in their compounds not in cemeteries as expected.

The Chairperson of Menkhoaneng Community Council Mrs. Mathapelo Letho says some residents of Pela Ts’oeu are still practicing the novel culture of burying their loved ones in their compounds not in cemeteries as expected.

Letho said the community does not understand that it is against the law to bury people within their compounds as stipulated by the law explaining that such practice has been mostly observed in the Loti Electoral Division.

She elaborated that this has been happening in numerous occasion so much that the council called the task force for assistance. She said the task force makes sure that the graves dug within the compounds are closed but others dig up new ones after that.

She said it is sad that the community promises to kill the community councillor if ever she tries to stop them.
She concluded that the task force has decided to deal with such families lawfully this week.
