Southern African heads of state and government have issued a post-summit communique committing themselves to support Mozambique in addressing “terrorism and violent attacks” but did not spell out any details.

The leaders met online yesterday as the security situation deteriorated in Cabo Delgado province, where insurgency has cost more than 1,000 lives and displaced 250 000 people since  2017.

The leaders pledged their commitment to supporting Mozambique’s government in its fight against the insurgency in Cabo Delgado province.

The leaders said SADC expressed solidarity and commitment to support Mozambique in addressing the terrorism and violent attacks.

They did not spell out any details of what practical or military support they would give.
