The Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Lesotho Chapter has commended the National University of Lesotho (NUL) for finally introducing a Bachelor of Arts Journalism program in its curriculum.

The National Director of MISA, Mr. Lekhetho Ntsukunyane, said the program comes at a time when media reforms are in process, and capacity building is of great necessity.

He said reforming media includes among other things, education which he expressed hope that it will change the media landscape for the better, even if the change is seen in a few years’ time.

Ntsukunyane, who earlier wrote to the NUL management, to inquire about the program which was supposed to have started two years ago, added that it would be advantageous if it comes in both full-time and part-time courses to allow working journalists to also benefit.

Dean of Faculty of Humanities at NUL, Dr. Lekholokoe Leshota confirmed that the programme will begin in the next academic year which commences in August this year.

This he confirmed based on the progress that he said his department has made in regard to the preparation, which he said is likely to get wrapped up by the end of March. The program is sponsored by the government of the United States.
