The minister of public service Mr. Keketso Sello says Education Plus Initiative will assist in retaining students until they complete their studies.

Mr. Sello was speaking on behalf of the prime minister during the meeting on access and retention in secondary education for Lesotho. Sello said, among the 5 countries that were selected during a meeting in Paris, only Lesotho has succeeded to implement this initiative through the help of development partners and other ministries.

Education plus initiative’s coordinator Mrs Caroline Ngonze said, the initiative is aimed at keeping adolescent girls and young women at schools to prevent high infections of HIV, and to advocate for social protection which will assist them in making informed decisions.
Ngonze stated that, this initiative followed realisation that, at least 4200 girls are infected with HIV weekly, in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Education Plus Initiative which commenced this year and will end in 2025, is a joint venture between UNESCO, UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and UN women.
