Mokhotlong business community has requested the government through the Lesotho Revenue Authority to commercialize the Sani Pass border post to enable them to pay tax at the border after purchasing goods from South Africa.

The request was made during a one-day meeting hosted by LRA to get the traders opinion on the prevailing situation in which they are to pay tax at the border despite producing the tax invoice of the goods imported into the country.

One of the traders Mr. Mosoang said there is need for Sani Pass border post to be commercialized as majority of them buy goods from Pietermaritzburg or Durban, South Africa, which is very close to Mokhotlong.

He said it is also convenient for them to travel to Kwazulu Natal and come back the same day unlike when they have to travel to Caledon’s Port in Butha Buthe, where they can produce tax invoices at the border.

LRA’s Public Relations Manager Mr. Pheello Mphana told the meeting that preparations are at an advanced stage for Sani Pass border post to be commercialized.
