Thaba-Tseka has the highest number of new reported covid-19 confirmed cases in the country

Thaba-Tseka has the highest number of new reported covid-19 confirmed cases in the country.

The deputy chief executive officer- operational support from the national covid-19 secretariat (NACOSEC) Mr. Thabo Ntoi says, this is due to ignorance and not adhering to Covid19 safety protocols. Ntoi however said the ministry of health has already dispatched a group of experts to ascertain what triggered the covid-19 resurgence in this district.

According to the latest statistics from Expanded Program on Immunization in the ministry of health, Thaba-Tseka has only managed to vaccinate 49 percent of its population.

Also, NACOSEC’s statistics show that the district has to date recorded at least 966 confirmed covid-19 cases.

MEANWHILE

The number of people who tested positive for covid-19 at the ports of entry has also increased to 449.

This, as the ministry of health is engaged in various campaigns of ensuring that visitors coming into the country either through ports of entry or illegal border crossings are tested and vaccinated against covid-19.

On the other hand, the number of new confirmed cases this festive season has also increased to 1,164. However, the mortality rate for covid-19 related illness is said to be very low.

This increased number of cases is said to be amongst adolescents between the ages of 10 and 19, unlike in the past weeks where the most affected group was between the ages of 30 and 39.

As a result, the manager at the Expanded Program on Immunization Mrs. Mamonaheng Posholi has appealed to parents, to allow their children aged 12 to 17 get their Pfizer jab, especially now that schools are on break.
