Sesiu sa Lets’oele le Beta Poho, a consortium of local private companies has donated about 60,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine to the Ministry of Health.
Accepting the consignment today, the Acting Minister of Health, Mr. Motlohi Maliehe said the government was thankful that business community in the country was extending a hand in the fight against the pandemic.
Maliehe said as Basotho, they have seen the importance of vaccine in saving lives, which has resulted in the reduction of admissions at health centres have as well as covid-19 related deaths.
He noted that the 60,000 doses donated will be administered to about 30,000 people.
Sesiu’s Chairman Mr. Sam Matekane said, they have crossed the milestone of purchasing 60,000 doses of Sinopharm with the help of pledges from corporate businesses and small enterprises saying therefore that they are grateful.
Matekane also thanked the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China for assisting them with the shipping and storage of the vaccine.
