The President of Burkina Faso, Roch Kaboré, has reportedly been detained by mutinying soldiers in the early hours of today.

Security officials said, troops leading the apparent coup showed that his government failed to support them during the country’s years-long conflict with armed groups.

Two security sources said, Kabore was detained at a military camp. There was no immediate comment by the government, which yesterday denied that a coup was under way.

Video from the capital, appears to show armored vehicles reportedly used by the presidency, peppered with bullet holes and abandoned on the street.

Soldiers have also surrounded the state television headquarters and there was no live programming since morning.
