Police Constable ‘Mabakuena Morebotsana says it is important for parents and guardians to teach their children about the dangers of using fire to avoid incidences of torching of property or burning themselves.

Morebotsana was addressing Mafeteng Disaster Management Team at a one-week Disaster Risk Reduction Training where she said, the practice will help reduce fire incidences whereby children usually end up being victims due to lack of knowledge on  the dangers of using fire.

She said it is the responsibility of the team to hold awareness campaigns in various villages to provide villagers with skills on how to prevent fire disasters.

Morebotsane called on parents to ensure that their children do not burn garbage as some may be too hazardous, where upon igniting, could burn the children.

One of the participants Ms. ‘Mamots’abi Mochaoa said through this training, they will be able to disseminate information to their villages on how best to prevent and prepare for disasters.
