Plans to reduce vulnerability in households through increasing the household number of beneficiaries receiving grants in the year 2021/2022 had not been fruitful.

This was confirmed by the Senior Information Officer in the Ministry of Social Development Mrs. Mpho Makhetha who said that, the Minister of Finance announced then during the presentation of the budget speech that, going forward, the plan is to increase the number of households receiving child grants by 14,000 to bring the total to 64,457, and to further cover vulnerable urban households.

The Ministry’s spokesperson had indicated that the ministry was not allocated enough funds to enable them to increase the number of households as expected and therefore, the number of beneficiaries remained the same in the 2021/2022 financial year.
