Private Sector Foundation of Lesotho’s Executive Director Mr. Thabo Qhesi says, the 5 percent increment on public servants’ salaries has no positive impact at all.

Qhesi said since public servants have not had any increment for the past three years, the current increment will not make any difference as inflation rate is going up as well as petroleum products due to the Russian invasion on Ukraine.

He said that, if there could be any impact it will not be much because the situation the country is currently in will worsen and will also be excarcebated by the situation in Russia.

He noted that Lesotho does not produce much as it mostly buys from South Africa and that, following the advent of COVID-19, they have realized that retailers took advantage by hiking prices adding that, food prices in Lesotho are much higher than in other countries in customs union such as Botswana and Namibia.
