The Ministry of Transport has refuted allegations that it has released new traffic fines and regulations.

This follows a document that has been circulating on social media which indicates that, the new regulations were released on March 16th and that motorists who will be driving without a license will be fined M1000, failure to produce a license M500 and those with expired vehicle’s license disc will be fined M500.

According to the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer, Mrs. Ntumeleng Ntsékhe Moloinyane, the allegations are not true as the trending document is from South Africa. Nts’ekhe Moloinyane clarified that, there are procedures that should be followed before the Ministry could review regulations, indicating that a gazette has to be made and be approved by Cabinet and Parliament amongst others.

She also said they are aware that some taxi operators want some of the regulations reviewed on grounds that they were hit by COVID-19 saying, regulations cannot just be reviewed within a day but is a process that involves several parties.
