The Senate’s amendments on the Counter Domestic Violence Bill, 2021 were debated in the National Assembly today.

They were presented by the Minister of Law and Justice, Advocate Lekhetho Rakuoane on behalf of the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation Ms. Likeleli Tampane.

Three considerations were rejected while nine were adopted as amendments.

The Minister of Forestry Mr. Motlohi Maliehe said it was only fair that when the lower house fails to notice some shortcomings on the bill, they need to welcome the Upper House’s recommendations.

The Counter Domestic Violence Bill 2021 is aimed at discouraging domestic violence in all its forms and gives appropriate sentences to perpetrators.
