Lesotho has been branded a very unclean country in the African continent by the Environmental Performance Index 2020.
A Member of the Senate Mr. Mphonyane Lebesa asked the Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship Affairs Mr. Moshe Leoma, if he was aware that Maseru City is unclean, unhygienic and the streets are littered with filth and garbage.
Lebesa said the waste is mainly caused by the City Council’s failure to collect and dispose off the trash timeously, and not enforcing environmental laws.
Minister Leoma responded by saying that Maseru City Council is unable to perform its duties due to lack of funds.
