The Ministry of Health’s Public Relations Officer Mrs. Mateboho Mosebekoa says only 55 percent of the population has vaccinated against covid-19, meaning that the country still has a long way to go before reaching the 70 percent of the targeted population this year.

Mosebekoa said it has been a while since 40 percent of the population was vaccinated, saying the expectation was that the number would have increased by now.

She said the rate at which people are vaccinating for covid-19 is a bit slow and the suspicion is that this is due to relaxed COVID-19 regulations in South Africa.

She urged the public to continue receiving covid-19 jabs and booster ones as the pandemic still exists.
