The minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Motlalentoa Letsosa Lesotho government is not aware of South African government’s decision not to extend Lesotho’s Special Permit.
Last week, South African minister of home affairs Dr. Aaron Motswaledi said South Africa plans to end most special permits for foreigners as it revamps its immigration policies to manage an influx of immigrants.
Minister Letsosa said that, they are not aware that the permit is not going to be extended as there has not been any communication from their counterparts.
He said that once they have been notified, they will act accordingly as these affects a large number of Basotho. He therefore urged all permit holders not to panic as the two governments will still meet, once they have been officially informed.
Lesotho Special Permit expires on the 31st of December 2023.
