Some members of the public have expressed discontent that Mr. Jason Shao-a Chinese national by origin, but a naturalized citizen of Lesotho, is among the candidates contesting the October general elections.
They said that it was wrong for the Independent Electoral Commission to have allowed Shao to register for elections saying that, Lesotho’s Constitution clearly stipulates that anyone contesting the elections, should know how to read and write Sesotho and English as the two official languages in this country.
They said that if Shao could stand for elections, then Lesotho would be opening a can of worms where they believe Chinese nationals will own everything and take over this country.
Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Mr. Tumelo Raboletse had indicated that, naturalized citizens had rights similar to those of citizens born in this country.
