Low voters’ turnout during general elections was not only a blow to political parties but also to democracy.

Peace Education Researcher Mr. Lemohang Molibeli from Development for Peace Education- DPE said, they have learnt that some members of the public were unable to exercise their right to vote because their names did not appear on the voters’ roll due to transfers and demarcation of constituencies.

Molibeli said this affected constituencies which already had low voters count saying, he has learnt that only 40 percent of people voted at constituencies at which he was deployed during DPE’s campaign to encourage the public to vote.

He added that registrations were also unreliable as some people received messages on their phones which confirmed that their names appear on the voters roll, only to find that they had to cast their votes at different polling stations.

He therefore emphasized the need for Independent Electoral Commission and relevant stakeholders to work on voters roll, soon after this elections
