The Maseru Magistrate Court’s Information Officer Mr. Refiloe Mohapeloa says sexual assault is the highest reported crime committed against children in recent times.
Mohapeloa said this is because children are usually vulnerable and in most cases, they are victimised by people known to them
He said children are, in most cases, assaulted sexually by their parents, neighbours and relatives
The Principal Probationary Officer Ms. Seithati Motsamai said some of the things that lead to sexual assault on children include environmental and economic issues, the use of internet, lack of parental supervision, poverty, peer pressure and lack of education
Motsamai said however that, there are measures put in place to prevent this crime such as sensitization of relevant stakeholders.
