Lesotho has the second highest number of new infections globally after Eswatini and the highest number of people dying of AIDS due to tuberculosis.

Lesotho has the second highest number of new infections globally after Eswatini and the highest number of people dying of AIDS due to tuberculosis.

This is according to the United Nations AIDS country director Mrs. Pepukai Chikukwa, when speaking at the 2 days stakeholders’ consultative meeting for the development of the National HIV/AIDS strategic plan 2023/24-2027/28 in Maseru today.

Chikukwa also showed that globally, there are 1.5 million new infections which seem to be not going down and 58.4 million people living with AIDS and also 300,000 new infections per year globally.

Meawhile, the National AIDS Commission’s chief Executive officer Mrs. Lebohang Mothae said the meeting is meant to forge a way forward for the nation on HIV/AIDS issues for the next 5 years. Mothae said the meeting is going to help the stakeholders to think, reflect and share experiences to help set a future on HIV/AIDS issues.
