The Mohale’s Hoek Disaster Management Authority has commenced the Vulnerability Assessment exercise in four villages of Ha -Sechele, Ha-Bolokoe, Kubake and Likotsing

The disaster officer Mr. Boitumelo Heqoa said, the exercise, which is funded by World Food Programme, is aimed at collecting data from the most vulnerable households to help strengthen the government’s technical capacity on early warning systems.

Heqoa said, it also assesses small businesses operating in villages such as shops, with the objective of analysing availability of commodities in each shop. They then enter into an agreement with owners to supply basic commodities to those who have been identified as the most vulnerable however, there is a limit to the amount of money not to be exceeded.

According to WFP’s report, food security in this country has deteriorated with the number of food insecure people on the rise due to years of drought and the impacts of Covid-19.
