Maseru Region Transport Operator’s Chairperson Mr. Mokete Jonase says, the new fares were supposed to have been published and made available to the public and owners by October 11th but since that did not happen, the transport fares might not increase next month.
Jonase says, chances of new transport fares being implemented on Wednesday next week are slim as the commuters have to be informed at least a month before their implementation
He said that they have previously requested the government to make a yearly increment even if its by 50 Lisente, they will have no problem as long as there is an increase. He stated that when increment is not implemented annually, it affects the commuters as it hits hard on their pockets.
He added that, they have learned that the fares have been increased by 10 percent.
Efforts to speak to the transport Board proved futile.
