SECTION 2 voices strong opposition to the sale of spoiled and expired food found in some South African shops.

A local organization advocating for basic human rights-Section 2, has voiced its strong opposition to the sale of spoiled and expired food found in some South African shops.

In an interview with this radio station, SECTION 2’s general secretary Mr. Tjatjapa Sekabi, expressed deep concern over Lesotho government’s silence on this critical issue.

Sekabi emphasized that, due to Lesotho’s close ties with South Africa, the country is at risk of receiving these expired food products.

According to Sekabi, this situation endangers the lives of vulnerable Basotho, who may be unable to afford reliable food sources.

Sekabi urged the Ministries of Health and Trade, to take immediate and decisive action, as there is a strong suspicion that, some of these expired products have already crossed into Lesotho.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that, approximately 30 children in SA have died after consuming food believed to be expired.

Attempts by this station to obtain comments from the relevant Lesotho ministries of health and trade, were unsuccessful.
