PAC Pounces on Public Works Officials: Ministry Tender Under Investigation, Arrests Ordered.

The Public Accounts Committee-PAC has ordered the arrest of the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Ms. Ts’epang Koele, along with other ministry officials, as it investigates the allocation of a tender for the reconstruction of Moshoeshoe I International Airport.

Ms. Koele was unable to provide satisfactory answers to the committee’s inquiry on whether the company awarded the tender, is linked to the Minister of Public Works and Transport.

PAC’s Chairperson Ms. ‘Machabana Lemphane Letsie repeatedly pressed Ms. Koele to clarify the roles of the companies involved in the project, but Ms. Koele failed to provide clear explanations.

During the session, Ms. Lemphane Letsie read aloud the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act, which outlines the responsibilities of individuals appearing before the committee and the consequences of refusing to provide adequate answers.

The committee also reviewed the collapse of a recently constructed wall surrounding the Special Operations Unit- SOU.

According to a report by the Ministry of Public Works, the collapse was attributed to natural disasters and incompetence, rather than any fault by the contractor.
