Mafeteng Magistrate court has sentenced Lehlohonolo Boholo from Matlapaneng, to five months in prison for unlawful cannabis’ possession.
Evidence showed that on November 06th last yr, the defendant unlawfully cultivated dagga at his residence in Matlapaneng.
Based on information received from community members in the area, Tsakholo Police officers visited the defendant’s property and discovered green dagga in his possession.
When confronted by the police, Boholo claimed that, the dagga plants belonged to the family he worked for as a herder and was intended for medicinal purposes for horses.
However, the defendant was unable to produce a valid license for the cultivation of dagga, leading to his arrest and subsequent conviction.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Mathabo Kopung instructed Boholo to undergo rehabilitation and comply with legal procedures, should he decide to cultivate cannabis in the future, so as to prevent similar offence from occurring.
