The Ministry of Health with support from development partners yesterday held a meeting to ensure alignment between its HIV/AIDS eradication programs and two ongoing donor-funded initiatives.
The two projects: Sustaining Epidemic Control through Unified Prevention (SECURE) and the Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) Project-are funded by U.N AIDS and the Millennium Challenge Account Compact II, with combined contributions of 109 million US dollars
Minister Selibe Mochoboroane emphasised the importance of avoiding duplication of efforts and ensuring proper implementation of these projects.
On behalf of U.N AIDS, Mr. Ian Membe said, the SECURE project is a five-year initiative aimed at harmonizing donor and ministry efforts in combating HIV/AIDS while Dr. Birhanu Sendek Getahun, from HSS project said, its objective is to improve health outcomes by strengthening Lesotho’s primary healthcare system.
The two projects, implemented across the country, also address key population issues, including men having sex with men, female sex workers, young girls and adolescent women, as well as voluntary medical male circumcision.
