Cleanliness is Next to Environmental Consciousness: Lesotho Urged to Spread the Message on the Importance of Clean Environments

There is a need to create more awareness on the importance of a clean environment to promote active participation of communities.

These transpired during Maseru District Operation Hloekisa Lesotho committee’s meeting held in Maseru yesterday to analyse successes and challenges faced in the last cleaning campaign as well as to prepare for the next campaign.

Maseru District Environment’s Officer Mr. Lets’oara Ramone said, they had heard that some members of the public say, they will not engage in the cleaning campaign as they already pay for garbage collection in their communities.

He said it is very unfortunate that they say that as the presence of illegal disposal sites in villages, prove that not all of them pay for garbage disposal.

He therefore advised the committee to continue staging public gatherings during the site visit at areas where the campaign will take place, to create awareness and educate communities about the importance of a clean environment.
