The case of suspected human trafficking involving ‘Mamolefe Macheli of Quthing, accused of selling a minor Reitumetse Phiri of Ha T’siu Maserunin August last year, continued in the Maseru Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The court heard that, ‘Mamolefe and her co-accused Rets’ilisitsoe Macheli, conspired in Sea Point Maseru, to kidnap Reitumetse Phiri with the intention of trafficking her to SA
The court granted bail of M2000 to the accused, which she failed to pay, it further ordered her to post a M10 000 security and report to court regularly as required
Ms. Phiri disappeared from her family in August last year, after responding to an online job advertisement offering M900 to do laundry
However, her family grew suspicious and reported the matter to the nearest police station. Subsequently, the police intercepted 2 men attempting to smuggle the young woman across the Tele River in Quthing into SA
Police investigations are ongoing, and it is expected that, the other 2 suspects, who fled to SA, will be brought back to face justice.
