The Department of Social Development has granted parents and guardians of Orphaned and Vulnerable Children bursary’s beneficiaries, a three-month grace period to submit all required documents.
The department’s Public Relations Officer Mrs. Mpho Makhetha stated that, the extension was granted after it was discovered that, some children lack birth certificates and some parents do not have identity documents.
Makhetha confirmed that, the grace period will run from March to May, during which eligible children, will still be allowed to attend school.
Registrations for the bursary closed last Friday.
The government introduced the OVC bursary programme to ensure that, vulnerable children have access to education. The bursary is granted to children who are double or single orphans, those in need, abandoned children and children with disability.
