The Lesotho Highlands Development Authority’s Chief Executive officer Mr. Tente Tente has announced that, compensation for the Ha Ncheela and Ha Makhalanyane communities will be processed by next month.
Tente made this statement before the Natural Resources Committee, following a petition by the Ha Ncheela community to the committee.
He explained that, after meeting with the committee last year, LHDA visited the affected communities to verify their requests. The Ha Ncheela community requested a community hall, while Ha Makhalanyane asked for the installation of electricity and an office building.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Ntaoleng Mochaba from LHDA reported that, the Lesotho Electricity Company was awarded a three-month contract for Makhalanyane’s electricity installation, which commenced in March.
She expressed hope that, the work would be completed by next month.
However, members of the committee expressed concern stating that, the work was expected to be finished by the end of last year as per their previous agreement, or at least an update should have been provided regarding the delay.
