Lesotho Mounted Police Service has held a capacity-building meeting for Village Policing Forums in Mohale’s Hoek.
Speaking at the event, Senior Inspector Thabiso Sututsa said, the meeting’s primary objective was to educate members about their roles and responsibilities, while emphasizing the importance of upholding human rights in local policing.
He said the gathering aimed to enhance the forums’ efficiency and understanding of their crucial role in ensuring community safety.
Senior Inspector Sututsa further stressed the importance of using safe and effective methods to apprehend suspects, while respecting their rights. He also reminded members to stay within their legal boundaries and responsibilities.
One of the attendees, Mrs. Mabatho Nqhotsa from Moeaneng, welcomed the initiative saying, the insights shared during the meeting, would help foster community development and strengthen national security. Nqhotsa added that, the gathering helped her and others recognize areas where they could improve their policing efforts.
In conclusion, Senior Superintendent Mapesela Klaas urged members of the Village Policing Forums, to remain dedicated to maintaining law and order, highlighting the vital role they play in protecting their communities.
