Minister Mokhosi Announces Progress on National Skills Registry Initiative for Basotho Employment Abroad.

Following the launch of the National Skills Registry for Labour Migration-an initiative aimed at creating employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled Basotho in foreign countries; Minister Ts’eliso Mokhosi reports ongoing discussions with recruiting agencies in nations such as Canada and Japan.

Minister Mokhosi shared this update yesterday during a press conference, in response to a question about the initiative’s progress.

He stated that, through discussions with a Canadian coordinator, Canada has expressed interest in absorbing a significant number of unskilled labourers for its domestic sector, while also indicating a need for nurses. The Ministry awaits confirmation of the details of these agreements.

Meanwhile, Japan has confirmed its interest in absorbing Basotho labour, prioritizing those who learn the Japanese language. He said, talks have already begun to establish Japanese language training for Basotho.
