More that 60 Members of Parliament (MPs) received early Christmas presents to the tune of M35,000.00 each in cash advances from the government of Lesotho last week.
The cash advances are said to be in lieu of gratuity which the MPs were promised in time for Christmas but could not get as a result of an administrative bungle. The government is said to have set aside a total of some M3.5 million to dish to MPs before Christmas with an estimated M2.1million having been collected so far. Meanwhile, the leader of Senkatana Party, Mr. Lehlohonolo Ts'ehlana said MPs started collecting their cash advances on the 8th of this month. Mr. Ts'ehlana said that each MP was receiving an advance of at least M35 000.00 with others getting more depending on their individual requests. No one has commented on this article.
