The British High Commission in Lesotho requests the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Principal Secretary to intervene

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Principal Secretary Colonel Tanki Mothae says the state of affairs at the Lesotho High Commission in London has led to the British High Commission in Lesotho requesting him to intervene.

According Mothae’s ‘s presentation before the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee he is currently addressing the situation to avoid tarnishing the Lesotho’s international image, adding that he has already written to the Lesotho’s High Commissioner in London, Mrs. Rethabile Mokaeane to show course why a disciplinary action could not be taken against her on several issues such as mismanagement of funds.

However Public Accounts Committee’s acting Chairperson Mr. Nyapane Kaya felt that the Ministry’s to institute a disciplinary action against Mokaeane was a direct undermining of the powers of the committee and was also harassment and intimidation in a bid to silence her on the mismanagement of funds in the Mission in London.

The Lesotho High Commission in London is faced with challenges of mismanagement of funds in which the high commission has failed to pay tuition fees for some officers who are studying in other countries since last year.
