The eco-culture organization says the government should do more to fight the pollution of water resources. This after the mass death of fish in Maqalika dam last weekend.

Mr. Koleile Mokhitli from the Eco-Culture organization pointed out that one of the things that the organization has noticed is water pollution from other sources that contribute water into Maqalika.

Mokhitli said they believe that pollution in villages and businesses where water sources are found, may cause harm to the environment.

He said amongst others, the government should carry out an environmental impact assessment regarding environmental pollution, especially for foreign businesses and that wetlands should be maintained as part of conserving the environment.

Meanwhile, the minister of agriculture and senior government officials visited Maqalika dam to inspect the situation and collect samples for testing and the expectation is that the findings will soon be published for the general public.
