The Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Motlalentoa Letsosa says ports of entry will still be opened for now, following reports that South Africa has detected a new COVID-19 variant called Omicron.
Letsosa said, borders will continue to be opened until they are advised otherwise by the Ministry of Health and the National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC).
He said that they are always advised by the ministry of health on issues regarding COVID-19, including testing and vaccines, emphasizing therefore that, movement at the border will remain as is.
South Africa has now recorded 2,858 new cases of Omicron and six new deaths in the past 24 hours.
