The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition’s spokesperson Mr. Lereko Masupha has denied allegations made by Basotho Action Party’s Leader Professor. Nqosa Mahao, that farmers could not cultivate because of government’s failure to supply them with fertilizers.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition’s spokesperson Mr. Lereko Masupha has denied allegations made by Basotho Action Party’s Leader Professor. Nqosa Mahao, that farmers could not cultivate because of government’s failure to supply them with fertilizers.

Masupha denied this following Professor Mahao’s allegations at the party’s press conference, where he said the government failed farmers with timely supplies hence the low harvest.

He denied that the budget which was allocated to the Ministry was used to purchase farming imputs such as fertilizers and seedlings which were bought in large quantities by farmers, and when the supplies ran out, the Minister asked for supplementary budget and more fertilizers were purchased even though the cultivating season was almost ending.
