The Ministry of Education and Training through its Principal Secretary-Basic Education Dr. Dira Khama has set the record straight regarding allegations made by Lesotho Association of Teachers-LAT that, the ministry is corrupt and is fraudulently using money for teachers’ arrears, paying its temporary staff.

Dr. Khama rubbished LAT’s Secretary General Mr. Letsatsi Ntsibolane’s utterances, saying that, since he is accusing the ministry of corruption and fraud, he should therefore report such to the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences so that it conducts investigations.

He stated that Ntsibolane’s actions are intended to cause friction between the ministry and the teachers, clarifying that, the ministry would never use money meant to pay teachers’ arrears for other things.

He also acknowledged that the ministry still owes teachers saying that, during the 2021/22 budget, they had requested enough funds to cover teachers’ salaries and arrears however,  due to financial constraints the government is currently experiencing, they were allocated less than what they had requested, hence they still have not paid those arrears.
