Skillshare Lesotho Human Trafficking Project’s Officer, Mr. Chabeli Monyaka says, the month of January is considered financially challenging by many, especially the youth as majority end up being trafficked in their search for greener pastures.
Monyaka said some parents usually do not have money for school fees during this month and their children resort to looking for employment at a very young age to provide for their families. He added that those who are not working, usually use social media to search for jobs which often leads to them to traffickers.
He said Skillshare Lesotho is currently sensitizing youth about human trafficking, its negative impacts and structures used in the country to verify foreign jobs.
Skillshare will visit schools and use different media platforms to disseminate this information on human trafficking.
