The Laws of Lerotholi Amendment Bills 2022 which was tabled for first reading in the National Assembly is intended to empower both widows and the orphaned children.

According to the Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation Ms. Likeleli Tampane after tabling the Bill, the amendment is aimed at ensuring that the widows under the Laws of Lerotholi which was denying women their rights to property after their husband died is no longer valid.

She said with the amendment, both widows and the orphaned children will be empowered regarding property after the death of a spouse or parents.

Tampane said the amendments will also help the orphaned to inherit their parents’ wealth, since in most cases, relatives usually leave them with nothing.
