Lesotho government yesterday evacuated 189 Basotho who were in danger as a result of xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Mr. Likopo Mahase said they were informed of the attacks early last week, where they learned that one Mosotho lost his life.

Mahase said they then communicated with South African authorities to intervene by providing protection to Basotho who were in danger in the affected farms.  He said they managed to safely bring all these Basotho home except the 13 who voluntarily stayed behind.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Tséliso Kalake has commended the SA government for heeding their call and acting timeously on this matter. Kalake said the government of Lesotho will  now ensure that it brings home the body of a Mosotho man who died in attacks, where two South Africans also died.
