The Department of Road Safety in Leribe is currently embarking on a campaign to educate farmers on how to combat road accidents.

According to the Principal Road Safety Officer Mr. Setsoto Putsoa, the objective is to sensitize farmers and herders about the importance of road signs and what they should do when moving livestock and ox-wagons across the road.

Putsoa indicated that the campaign follows is realization that most farmers are currently harvesting their fields and are transporting harvested crops on ox-wagons and tractors after sunset, a move that poses a threat to road users at night.

He said during this campaign, they will encourage farmers to fasten livestock especially cattle with reflector belts to ensure they are visible when crossing the road at night, while herders will be encouraged to refrain from grazing livestock along the road.
