141 learners from four primary schools in Thaba-Tseka were presented with sanitary towels by Thabatseka female Police officers yesterday.
The students were selected from Paray, Katlehong, Loti and Thaba Tseka Primary schools.
Superintendent Karabo Morapeli of Thaba-Tseka police station said he was touched by the learner’s plea where thay stated that they cannot afford to buy sanitary towels as some of them are orphaned children. Supt Morapeli added that the donation is intended to ensure that adolescent girls in that district do not miss school due to lack of sanitary towels.
At the same event, Police Woman Khoboso Samonyane sensitised the young girls on their rights as children and various forms of abuse. Samonyane asked them to be vigilant at all times as abuse can be perpetrated by people closest to them.
On behalf of the Teachers, Mrs. ‘Matsepo Kibi from Thaba Tseka primary school thanked the police for the gesture saying they are happy to have found partners that share the same challenge they go through every month.
A learner, Lineo Khabo from Loti Primary school also thanked the police saying it is difficult as some of them cannot afford to buy pads due to poverty.
