The Ministry of Public service, Labour and Employment has issued a statement addressing the concerns of factory workers through their various unions about the Labour Code amendment 2023.

The Ministry has in the statement, acknowledged that, difference of opinions does happen where different people are working together adding that, it is acceptable as long as there is no violation of the law.

It said the amendment is in line with other international labour laws, and it is not meant only for factory workers, but the workers in general.

The statement indicated that, although the workers have already demonstrated the concerns about the Code, they are yet to meet with the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment about the same Code. It stated that, the complainants still have an opportunity to place their concerns before a parliamentary committee responsible for such issues, where the Ministry is answerable to.

Labour unions have pleaded with the government to take into consideration, their concerns over the new Labour Code.
