Early Childhood Care and Development curriculum blossoms in Qachasnek district

Seven months after its introduction, the new Early Childhood Care and Development curriculum is showing encouraging progress, according to a recent review by Qachasnek district education office conducted between October and November 2024.

The curriculum, developed by the National Curriculum Development Centre, focuses on a play-based, child-centered learning model designed to promote children’s emotional, social and cognitive growth.

The curriculum which was implemented in April, has undergone three monitoring phases and recent findings indicate significant improvements in student participation and lesson quality, despite some challenges.

The district’s ECCD teacher trainer Ms. Nteboheleng Jim, praised the program’s transformative effect saying, children are more curious, interactive and confident in their learning.

Jim noted that, the latest round of monitoring efforts, revisited schools that presented mixed results during earlier phases and introduced the curriculum to new schools, to address persistent issues.
