Executive Committee threatens withdrawal over corruption allegations against PS Phapano

Basotho Action Party (BAP), is reportedly experiencing heightened internal conflicts.

The party’s Executive Committee, is allegedly threatening to withdraw from the government, unless Prime Minister Samuel Matekane reassigns Tankiso Phapano, the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Energy; following accusations of corruption.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that, yesterday, the BAP’s Executive Committee convened an urgent meeting to determine whether the party should continue supporting the coalition government

Sources within the BAP claim that, the party leadership has demanded that, Phapano be reassigned to a ministry overseen by BAP’s Deputy Leader, Motlatsi Maqelepo.

BAP’s  PRO Teboho Lehloenya, acknowledged that, a meeting took place but declined to elaborate on the agenda.

He noted that, grievances raised by the party’s coalition representatives were discussed and that, a letter outlining these issues was sent to the Prime Minister, with a response expected by Thursday

The dispute between Phapano and BAP Leader Nqosa Mahao centers on allegations of tender corruption.

Despite efforts by the BAP to remove Phapano, the Prime Minister has not complied to their demands.
