King Letsie III: Grateful for Finland’s Hospitality and Opportunities

King Letsie III has expressed gratitude for opportunities extended to Lesotho during his visit to Finland last year.

Speaking at the Royal Palace today while accepting letters of credence from Finland’s Ambassador to Lesotho Mr. Pekka Metso, the King highlighted key milestones achieved through the bilateral relationship.

He specifically noted the signing of a letter of interest on water development and waste-to-energy sectors, saying he hopes these opportunities will lay a strong foundation that will benefit Lesotho.

The King further acknowledged Finland’s historical and ongoing support to Lesotho, including political and economic backing during the apartheid era in South Africa.

He assured the Ambassador of the support of the government and Basotho to facilitate his work, wishing him success in his new role.

In response, Mr. Metso highlighted Finland’s funding of various projects in Lesotho, including youth development initiatives and clean energy projects through the Energy and Environment Partnership Africa since 2013.

He reaffirmed Finland’s commitment to supporting Lesotho, in areas such as good governance, financial management and justice system reforms; vowing to strengthen the bonds between the two countries during his occupancy.
