Superintendent ‘Muso Lehlokoa from the police Fire and Rescue department says, preliminary reports show that, the burning of Mapetla House on Sunday afternoon, was caused by electricity.
Superintendent Lehlokoa said they are continuing with investigations but that, the tenant who occupied the burned room had told them that, the distribution board showed some error on Friday, which confirms their suspicion.
He advised the owners of buildings, to be equipped on risk assessment, so that they know what is needed to protect their property against different hazards including fire.
He mentioned that, building owners should comply with safety measures, including having fire marshals outside buildings so that they act immediately when fire breaks.
Supt. Lehlokoa also stated that, tenants should take part in firefighting training saying, this would help them know about safety precautions, further appealing to people to ensure that, they switch off all electric appliances when they leave offices
